Seeing Through the Eyes of My Daughter

By: Sharm

There was a peaceful and happy family until that fateful day in March. Jack and his wife Kate, togethere with their three children – Paris, the eldest,  John, the middle child and Jane the youngest and only girl in the brood were heading to a beach resort in Laguna on a blue Chevrolet to escape the heat of summer, when Jane suddenly cried out.

“Where is kitty? Why is she not with us? She’ll be all alone in the house. Poor thing, she’ll get hungry. Please, Dad, let’s go back to get her.”

“Kitty will be okay, Honey. We’ll be home before sundown.”

“No, I won’t enjoy a bit without her. Mom, please convince Dad to get kitty.”

“Alright let’s get back for kitty before the whole plan gets spoiled.”

Jack was swerving the car to the opposite direction, when a fast-moving cargo truck bumped their car which turned upside down.

The rescue team that responded to the call of the residents of the area found the whole family unconscious. Jack’s face was bloody with pieces of broken glass scattered all over it. Kate cover Jane with her body to protect her, while Paris and John were found embracing each other. The family was rush to the nearest hospital, but Kate was declared dead upon arrival. Jack became blind on both eyes. The two sons had several cuts and hematoma, but were declared to be out of danger. Jane was the least hurt in the mishap because she was well protected by her Mom’s body.

When Jack knew that his wife was dead, he got so angry of her daughter and blamed her for the tragedy. The family relationship was never the same again. Jack ignored Jane like she’s not his daughter anymore.

One morning, Jane approached her Dad crying.

“I’m very sorry for what happened, Dad. It’s really all my fault. I hope you will forgive me.”

She tried to hug him but he pushed her away.

“Can you not really forgive me Dad?

“No, Because of your whim, we lost your Mom and I became blind.”

“What must I do to be forgiven? Punish me if you want and I will not complain.”

“There’s nothing you can do to be forgiven. Can you ever bring back the life of your mom? Can you bring back my eyesight? The doctor says only an eye transplant can bring back my eyesight, and that is impossible without a donor.”

One day, while having his dinner, Jack received a call from his doctor telling him that there is a donor for his eye transplant. So he underwent an eye transplant. It was successful and he was able to see again.

When he returned home, only his two sons met him at the door. He searched for her daughter. He asked all their maids but nobody knows where she is. He went to her daughter’s room and where she was always staying but he found nobody. Then, he went to his room to rest. He was surprised seeing her daughter sitting on her mother’s favourite chair. He asked his daughter what why she was there. The young girl answered smiling “I’m waiting for you here daddy. I’m so excited because you are going to forgive me today.” Her dad replied “I told you it’s impossible for me to forgive you”. The girl answered “You told me it’s as impossible as having your sight back. Now you have it back. I’m also having my daddy back. I missed you daddy. By the way daddy, my eyes look good on you”.
